I'M DYEING

We were taught how to dye fabrics using :

Procion Dye- dyeing cotton, linen, viscose or rayon
Disperse Dye-dyeing synthetic/ manmade fabrics such as polyester and nylon
Acid Dye-mohair, silk, angora, cashmere and nylon

I bought a shirt and a pair of trousers, that I would use for the costume. The quotation says 'A fearful man, all in coarse grey', and as my shirt was already grey I wouldn’t need to dye it . The shirt was made of 35% cotton and 65% Polyester, therefore if I was going to dye it I would use either Procion or Disperse dye.

My trousers were not grey, there were more of a beige colour, and therefore I would have to dye them. I looked at the care label and it said that they were made of 64% polyester, 44% wool and 2%lycra; this meant that I could use either Disperse dye or Acid dye, Acid dye is used to dye silk, mohair, angora, cashmere and nylon fabrics, therefore it would be appropriate to dye a woolen fabric using Acid dye. I dyed some samples using both types of dye, and disperse came out the best so i decided to use that to dye the trousers.
